MagicSchool.AI is a web-based all-inclusive tool for K-12 teachers and students. There is both a teacher version and a student version. The teacher version helps teachers quickly create lesson plans, assessments, accommodations, and differentiated materials for classroom instruction. Other tools include wizards for creating worksheets, quizzes, rubrics, presentations, writing feedback, differentiation, family communication and more – all in a matter of minutes. With most of the tools, teachers enter information such as the grade level, subject, learning objective, and desired format and then the tool generates a draft that can be edited, saving the teacher time and helping them be more productive.

It can be especially helpful in working with students with disabilities, because it allows teachers to easily generate modified assignments including simplified texts, IEP-aligned supports and many other resources to support learners of all abilities.

Free, Plus, and school/district plans are available. The free version offers access to MagicSchool’s main teacher and student tools with standard usage limits for generations and editing. The free version is pretty generous and includes the majority of the tools. If you typically use AI to create differentiated instruction and like to edit the versions multiple timesThe plus version includes other advanced features such as unlimited AI generations, unlimited saved/output history, as well as access to the MagicSchool labs (which include new and experimental tools like the podcast generator). At the time of this review, Plus is $12.99 per month or $99.96 per year (which is $8.33 per month).

In addition to web, MagicSchool also offers browser extensions for added convenience and quicker access to the tools while working in other websites. Google Chrome is the best browser for MagicSchool AI. Although there is not a stand-alone app for iOS or Android, you can add a MagicSchool shortcut icon directly to your iPhone or Android home screen so it acts like a regular app. The web platform can also be opened in a mobile browser.

For Teachers

Go to MagicSchool and sign in or create a free educator account.
Choose a teacher tool, such as Lesson Plan, Quiz Generator, Rubric Generator, Text Leveler, or Writing Feedback.
Enter the requested information, such as grade level, topic, learning objective, and any specific instructions.
Select Generate and review the AI-created content.
Edit and personalize the material before using or sharing it with students.
To give students access to AI tools, create a MagicStudent Room, select the tools or activity students can use, and share the room or join code with them. Teachers can then review student work and AI interactions.

For Students

Go to MagicStudent using the link or Student Room provided by your teacher.
Enter your name and the teacher’s join code, or sign in if your school uses student accounts.
Open the tool or activity your teacher has assigned.
Enter your question, response, or assignment information and use the AI for help with brainstorming, feedback, explanations, or practice.
Review the AI response carefully and use it to support your own thinking rather than simply copying the answer.

Reviewer Experience

We trialed this app with multiple neurodivergent teachers and students who need extra help with focus, repeated review, task analysis, and chunking of assignments. The teachers that we worked with appreciated the extra help in creating lesson plans, quizzes, tests. Students needing extra practice found it especially helpful practicing skills taught in class by using the Studybot (chatbot) “Raina” to help them study and review specific topics by answering questions that she asks as a study aide with the Quiz Me! Tool. With this tool a user would just paste their study topic or class notes in, choose their grade level and then the interactive AI bot will then ask them questions related to that topic one at a time. We like how students can check their answers and the tool provides instant feedback.

A key thing to remember when using AI tools is understanding that these tools that help generate content do not replace the teacher and with this particular AI model, users can customize the output by uploading curriculum, learning objectives, and district/state standards. The tools generated by Magic School AI aren’t just helpful for students, but the teacher view helps save valuable time. The educators we trialed this tool found it as an easy starting point in getting started with AI. It provides support in prompting to help users get what they are looking for. Teachers can save time on repetitive planning and communication tasks and also allows you to create materials for different reading levels and learning needs.

Families, teachers, parents and students can feel secure with the Magic School’s school-focused privacy protections. Users should keep in mind that AI-generated information may be inaccurate, generic, or poorly matched to a particular student. Teacher should review and make necessary changes to AI created content before giving to students.
