Jungle Coins
Are you looking for a visual way to teach coins to your students? Jungle coins has five levels with pictures of real coins. You can even tap the coin and it will flip over and the audio will state the coin amount.
In the settings the teacher or parent can set the level, sounds, voice and even language. Data is kept, but the app only manages one user. After adjusting your settings choose which "game" the student will play. Find the coin which helps students identify the coin- great for early learners!
Next, is count the coin where a few coins are displayed. The student needs to count the coins and choose the right amount using a rolling counter, which requires some fine motor control or hand over hand assistance. The next "game" is comparing coins. Student needs to count coins on right and left side and decide if the left side is greater, less than or equal to the right side. Students need to understand the concept greater than, less than.
Correct change is the next "game". It is the most difficult of the activities as it requires understanding word problems, following directions and adding and subtracting. This has been a useful app working in a diversified classroom of developmentally disabled students. Students can work at their level and be tracked by teachers.
Possible IEP Goals:
The student will identify ___ number of common coins and bills.
The student will correctly assign a value to ___ number of coins and ___ number of bills.
The student will name the equivalent of monies presented by the teacher (e.g., four quarters =one dollar).
When presented with verbal math problems involving money, the student will add and subtract play money.
The student will add and subtract money problems on a worksheet or on an iPad.
