Easy Resume Builder : CV Maker
Easy Resume Builder is a basic resume builder that is great to use with students who are transitioning from high school to the adult world. This app is a great way for teens who are preparing to transition to gain practice writing their resume in a simple format that allows them to practice key components in writing a resume.
The app is very easy to use. Simply type in the student's name. It will take you to the next screen which has 9 sections from contact information to work experience/training, education, references and more. There are a number of sections that allow the user to choose from a list that best suits them. For example, in the objective section they can choose from a list of seven objectives, make changes to them (using parts of them) or they can write their own objectives from scratch. Students can work at their own pace and come back to their resume to change any errors. All updates save automatically and users can navigate through each screen by hitting the back button in the upper left hand corner. Upon completion users can generate a PDF and print an actual resume.
Our reviewer trialed the app with her class of 17 - 21 year old developmentally delayed students. All students were required to write a resume. Graduating students also created cover letters, which is another option on the app. We really likes this app and it stood out among some of the others because it was the most user-friendly. Although this app does not have a lot of bells and whistles, it does let students work independently on their resumes. When trialing this app, some students chose to use index cards to help them with their spelling. After they completed their resume, they could then print it to see if they could identify any errors and self-correct them. Many of our students transitioning out of high school need to be able to graduate with a resume and the ability to present an employer with a resume that they can create themselves. Easy Resume Builder is a great resource for doing that.
Easy Resume Builder may benefit users with learning disabilities, developmental disabilities, down syndrome, and autism spectrum disorder.
Suggested IEP Goal: The student will develop a resume with category names (e.g., education, employment, references). The student will type up and make copies of his/her own resume.
