The Kroger app is a great way for users to take advantage of all the features when they are signed in with their Kroger plus account. All users can create shopping lists within the app including both sale items and those that are found within the app. If users are signed into their free account, they can easily move items from their shopping list to their shopping carts. The app and service are great for caregivers, busy moms, individuals who are have limited mobility or disabled, older adults, and/or people who have compromised immune systems or get nervous around a lot of people while shopping.

If users are signed into their free account, they can easily move items from their shopping list to their shopping carts. From there, users can place an order for pick up or delivery. When logged in users can manage their prescriptions online, check their fuel point balances (allowing them to see when fuel points expire). Another great feature is the ability to skip the line and order bakery and deli items ahead of time.

Online prices are the same as in-store prices on the day that you place the order. Kroger grocery pick-up (formerly Clicklist) is free if you spend $35 or more, otherwise, it is $4.95 for this service. You’ll also often pay a $4.95 service fee if you need same-day pickup - but if you schedule next-day or later, it is free. You can schedule a pick-up up for up to 7 days in advance. Kroger Delivery uses Instacart and is available for a flat fee of $6.95 – $9.95 (depending on your location). At the time of writing this review, there is also a new Kroger boost membership, which is $59.95 a year, compared to Instacart’s $99.95/year. Boost members receive free next-day delivery and double fuel points per dollar spent, in addition to extra discounts on Kroger specialty brands. In some ways, being a Boost member is cheaper in that their delivery drivers do not accept tips.

For those who prefer to shop in-store, the app allows you to plan ahead and create your shopping list. Like many other grocery apps, you can clip “virtual coupons” while shopping in the store or plan ahead by clipping the coupons to have them ready in your account for you when you get to the store. If you are choosing to pick up curbside, users can easily reorder the same items each week or add items to your weekly staples that are in your cart history, which will serve as your shopping list each week. Curbside pickup and delivery can also help users save money. Skip the impulse buys when you walk down the aisles and only put items in your virtual cart that you need. One of our favorite features is how you can search for items using the magnifying glass in the top-right-hand corner of the home screen. This is a great feature that will quickly allow you to see if items are in stock. We love to use this feature when we are shopping to help us find items we need. You can also find specific items by scanning them with the barcode reader in this same area. The app is also a convenient way to see when your prescriptions are ready. Parents can set up multiple profiles for children. At this time the app doesn’t allow you to set up multiple adults on one account, but app developers are hoping to have that as a feature soon.

First-time users will want to follow three easy steps to get started. First, create an account. Second, choose the store where you will do your shopping. Finally choose what type of shopping you will be doing: in-store, pick-up, or delivery.

The app is divided into five sections that you will see along the bottom of your screen. Working from left to right, we will share with you several of the most used shortcuts:

Home. Tapping on the home button takes you to frequently used shortcuts like Kroger Pay, past purchases, fuel points (where you can view your balances), and pharmacy (where you can login to your prescription drug account to request refills and see important information like how many refills remaining, dosage instructions, and doctor information, etc.) In the middle of the home screen you can access your shopping list, creating it as browse online. In the savings portion of the home screen, you can swipe from left to right to see digital coupons and clip them as you look at them.

Weekly Ads. By clicking on the “weekly ads” button that comes next you can preview your areas weekly specials. Enlarge the ad by tapping on the blue preview button that is a blue bubble. The preview looks just like the paper flyer that you would get while shopping in the store. Use two fingers to pinch out so that you can zoom and make the images/text larger. For an easier shopping experience, scroll down to see the weekly specials by category by exiting out of preview mode. We like how you can see each item divided by category with its sale price. Easily add items to your shopping list from this same screen by tapping on the paper/pencil icon to the right with a plus sign. To add additional quantities, simply tap the button again. This is an easier way to shop from the weekly specials

Savings. If you are looking for specific coupons, you can browse by “all coupons” and clip them so that when you shop in-store or online you will have them uploaded to your account and ready to use upon checkout. You can also use the search feature to find specific coupons and search them.

Shop. Whether you are looking for promotions or specific categories, browse what you are looking for and “save to list”. If you haven’t already done so, choose your store and how you prefer to shop for this order. Pick up, delivery, or even just to plan your trip in advance. You can look at the list that is divided up by which aisles you can find each item or just click on each item’s picture while you are shopping and it will show you the exact aisle to find it.

Our BridgingApps reviewer, who is the caregiver of her aging father and four busy kids often uses the app and grocery service to avoid the difficulties of taking her children into the store to shop. She also uses it for her father, so that he can select the grocery items that he uses on a regular basis and she can pick them up while she is out. Typically a trip to Kroger could take up to an hour and normally cost a lot more because everyone wants something while they shop. Kroger pickup service eliminates having to take her children out of the car and into the store. The task of picking up the items often takes between 5-10 minutes. A Kroger associate will load your groceries into your car when you arrive.
