MyTherapy is a free medication and refill reminder app in which users are also able to record measurements, symptoms, and doctor visits in the integrated patient diary.

Short How To

After downloading the app, users have the option to create or use the app as a guest user. Creating an account allows users to log into the app from other devices and see all their medications and entries. The app will then prompt users to select a medication from the database or create a custom one if it is not found in the database. The user will select the schedule for when they take the medication (once/twice daily, on demand (no reminder needed), intervals; once every second day, multiple times daily, specific days of the week, or cyclic mode; 21 intake days, 7 pause days) and then create a reminder schedule. They can also enable critical alerts to receive notifications even if their device is muted or set to “Do Not Disturb”. Users can also choose to enable refill reminders by entering the current number of pills they have and at how many pills they want to be reminded. Lastly, they can select why they take the medication. Users can manage their medications and add reminders for medications, measurement input, activity and symptom check in the Treatment screen of the app. In this screen they will see a tab notifying them if their phone is in silent mode. If tapped, it will show a diagram on how to activate the ringer to receive alarms.

The Support screen allows users to add appointment information which comes with two default reminders (one at 6PM the day before and the other 2 hours before the appointment, a health care professional’s information, and contact information for a preferred pharmacy. They can also contact the MyTherapy support team. The Progress screen shows a weekly view of your patient diary with green checkmarks for taken medication, red “X’s” for missed medications, and question marks for no input. Users can toggle between a chart view or a list view and can also export the data via a PDF report or a temporary online view which generates an access code (only lasts 45 mins) to share their current medication plan online. Online viewers have to visit https://web.mytherapyapp.com to see the users currently scheduled medications with name, frequency, medical condition and inventory but NOT if it’s been taken or not. The PDF reports can be emailed to caregivers and others and DO include whether a medication has been taken or not.

The Today screen will show users all medications, measurements, or symptom checks they have to take/input for the day. Tapping on any one will allow them to confirm it’s been taken, snooze for 30 minutes or skip it. Users can add a one-time entry in this screen if they took an extra dose, measurement, or symptom check for the day. After all tasks are completed, users can reveal a hidden picture which changes each day. Pictures range from puppies, to colorful screens, to scenery views, etc.

Reviewer Experience

Our reviewer loved how easy it was to set up and use MyTherapy. She was able to add her 2 different medications and 3 different vitamins very quickly and without any challenges. She especially loves the silent mode notice as she feels this will be helpful for users who might not realize their phone is set to silent mode and the instructions on how to turn it off will be a hit for even the most technologically challenged person to feel confident using MyTherapy. Another favorite feature that truly sets MyTherapy apart from other medication reminder apps is the critical alerts feature that allows medication reminders to come through even when a device is muted or set to “Do Not Disturb”. This feature is extremely helpful to stay on track of meds, however, can pose a problem if you need your phone silent when at an event.

MyTherapy is extremely intuitive and pairs well with wearable devices like an Apple Watch. Our reviewer liked that she was able to receive medication reminders on her watch, however, disliked that on the watch she could only confirm a medication was taken, not skip or delay. To do that, she had to open the app on her phone which she found inconvenient when she was on the go. On the bright side, she was able to add a widget to her home screen to speed up that process and be able to see her tasks for the day quickly, without opening the app.

This is app is great at allowing users to independently manage their medications but still have access to accountability and support if needed. It allows all family members and caregivers to become involved in an individual’s care by allowing users to share a copy of their medication information so that everyone knows what meds they are on. Since there are two ways to share this information, it is important to note that the PDF report is much more extensive than the online viewing. The PDF report can be directly emailed to caregivers from the app and it includes a list of the medications the user is one, amount they have left, medication history which shows whether the medication has been taken or skipped, and reports on mood and activity. The online viewing only shows the currently scheduled medications with frequency and quantity left. For caregivers wishing to check that their loved one is taking their meds, it is important that the user shares the pdf report. A helpful tip is to use the Support screen as a caregiver screen by inputting caregiver contact information instead of a health care professional. Users can enter in the caregivers’ name, their role (mom, dad, paid caregiver, etc.), phone number, and email so that if they ever need support, they can tap on the name and call them directly from the MyTherapy app. They can also use this screen to type in the correct email address when sharing a PDF report with their caregiver.

Benefits

MyTherapy would greatly benefit anyone who is looking for a way to manage their medications, whether it is just one or several. It would be an especially helpful tool for individuals who are reward-driven as the hidden picture is a great feature to encourage and motivate users to take their meds. This would be a great app for individuals with autism who are seeking to independently manage their medications.

Additional Comments

The app is compatible with VoiceOver and Spoken Content. MyTherapy is completely free despite the app store showing in-app purchases. These in-app purchases are voluntary donations to the MyTherapy teams and are not required to have full access to the app.

What's New

You can now add medicines that are taken as needed. For example, if you are taking a migraine medication you can note when you take it within the app. The app has been recently upgraded with new colors and a new logo. As of 2025, users can now set up refill reminders so that you never forget when to order your next pack. The ability to connect the app to Apple Health is now available so that users can automatically sync important health data like weight, step count, and water intake to have quickly available at their next doctor's appointment. Lastly, streaks have been added so that you can track how many days in a row you complete health tasks (i.e. step count, water intake, medication intake, etc). This is a great way to keep users motivated to stay on top of their daily health goals!
