Recently updated, Voiceitt is a communication app that was designed to help people with speech disabilities, disorders, or impairments or other speech difficulties that cause their speech to be not easily understood by listeners who are unfamiliar with them. Voiceitt learns how the individual speaks certain words through repeated training and then uses those words as commands for connected phrases. For example, the word “help” can be trained to mean “I need help”. Used along with other phrases such as name and emergency contact, this could help the user speaking to unfamiliar listeners in a public place.

The app has a simple interface with a large button in the middle of the screen that says “speak”. Once this button is tapped, the app begins listening for commands. The app then shows the phrase or information or action triggered by the command as well as speaking it for the user and listener to hear. The app can be used in two different modes, conversation mode and smart home mode.

Conversation Mode is used to ask questions or give information to unfamiliar listeners using pre-programmed phrases (customized by the user) that are triggered by the user’s verbal cue or command. For example, a user may want to ask “Where is the restroom?” when visiting an unfamiliar location. The user could teach Voiceitt how they typically ask for the restroom (could just be one word “restroom” or “toilet”, whatever makes sense to the user) and that becomes the command. After the phrase is trained, whenever Voiceitt hears that command, it would say, “Where is the restroom?” for the user. The conversation feature could be used to make sure that the user always has a way to communicate their basic information in case of a medical emergency or in the case that they get separated from their companion or caregiver in public.

Smart Home mode works with smart home voice assistants to control smart home enabled devices such as lights, doorbells, cameras, and appliances and other devices that can be plugged into smart plugs. For example, if a user has a lamp plugged into a smart plug that is Alexa enabled, they can program Voiceitt to tell Alexa to turn on the light or turn it off using just their voices. This feature allows people with non-standard speech to take advantage of the convenience and added independence that these types of devices provide to users with physical disabilities.

BridgingApps participated in a pilot for the Voiceitt app and had the privilege of observing clients aged 15- their mid 60s learn to use the app. There were many benefits to the clients including a better sense of security for the older client who spent a lot of time in public places with her primary caregiver and programmed Voiceitt to say phrases like, “I have become separated from my companion” and to say her companion’s name and phone number when prompted in case of an emergency. We can see many benefits for this app and are excited to see where this amazing technology leads.

You are now able to save your dictations by clicking on the "save" icon at the bottom of the page.

If you wish to start a new dictation, click on"new note" on the top of the screen.

Highlighted read aloud

We are pleased to announce the addition of a highlight feature in the "Speak" and "Dictate" modes. This new functionality allows you to visually track the words on the screen as they are being voiced in real time.

Personal Vocabulary

We are excited to introduce a significant redesign of the Personal Vocabulary page to provide an intuitive and seamless experience. The new interface lets you delete words and visualize your customized vocabulary list easily.

You can delete personalized words by entering Record--> Personal Vocabulary --> Click on the desired word--> Click the "remove" icon.
